Installing a Licence (*.lic) Key File in NetAnalysis v1.5x
— NetAnalysis can use a licence keyfile to activate the full functionality of the software. The licence key file is normally sent to the end user by email and is contained within a zip archive. The licence key file (netanalysis.lic) must be extracted from the zip file and installed using the Licence Key Management Utility. In versions of NetAnalysis prior to v1.5x, the licence key file was copied to the installation folder so that it was in the same physical location as the "NetAnalysis.exe" executable.

Running NetAnalysis from a Thumb Drive
— NetAnalysis was designed as a forensic application to be utilised within a lab environment. It was not designed to run from a removable USB device or be used against live, non-write protected evidence. NetAnalysis uses a number of DLL files (some of which are shared with other applications) which need to be registered on the system it is running on. Registering a DLL on a system involves making changes to the registry. This process is carried out by the installation software during setup. In addition, NetAnalysis reads and writes data to an XML configuration file and also requires read/write access to a database.

The Licence Key Management Utility cannot see USB Dongle
— This is because the Licence Key Management Utility is only for installing/viewing licence keys and is not designed to work with USB hardware dongles. To get the dongle to function correctly, simply plug it in and run NetAnalysis/HstEx. To verify the dongle is working, select Help » About in NetAnalysis or look at the licence section in HstEx as shown in Figure 1.
